Sommaren 1997 var solig och varm, allt växte bra. Rosen till vänster är 'Prairie Dawn' - som jag trodde var avlägsen släkting till 'New Dawn' men den är Rosa pimpinellifolia och till skillnad till kusiner, var hos Yngve tyvärr väldigt trög på att blomma. Jag fick aldrig den utlovade blomsterprakten. Numera är Prairie Dawn invaderad av en rotskott från Susanne som tydligen står på egen rot då. Jag tog inte bort skotten som jobbade då som ersättare till Prairie Dawn på att blomma.. Över huvud taget borde jag på terrasserna kanske plantera bara Susanne.
Bakom Prairie Dawn - 'Ilse Krohn Supperior' - en till besvikelse. Rosen klarade inte västliga saltvindar från viken och blommade inte alls, eller fick enstaka blommor, drabbades senare på sommaren av svartfläcksjuka, var klen och växte mycket svagt. Likaså 'Dr Eckener', R.rugosa hybrid - till höger, som fått en första vackra blomma i juli 1997, men senare åren sällan mer än en! Till slut köpte jag i 1999 en till buske av Dr Eckener och planterade mitt i gräsmatta framför huset. Jag ville se på de vackra blommorna! Den andre doctor var stark, växte fort hög och robust, blommade förträffligt, men man fick vänta ganska länge för första blomman som kom i juli 2001!
Rosen som svek mig ganska mycket likaså var det 'Blanc Double de Coubert', också planterad på terrasserna i 1996. Om den hade fått en blomma, måste man vara glad. Första gången hände fler blommor året 2001, då kunde jag äntligen ta några bilder på den.
Massor med vita, skira blommor uppe på terrasserna det är min bästa vän, silverarv. Det är en otrolig växt, tycker jag.. Kanske dess beteende påminner lite ogräs, men den är välkommen i mina trådgårdar!
Gatuterrasserna juni 1997. Rosen 'Susanne', kanadensisk pimpinellhybrid blommar för första gången. Över huvud taget är Susanne första rosen som blommar på våren och sedan brukar hon få ofta lite blommor då och då, alltid någon blomma hela sommaren. Uppe syns Yngves hus. Nu ser man var ligger gatuterrasserna i förhållandet till huset.
'The Street Terraces' in June 1997. The rose 'Susanne' (R.pimpinellifolia) has got flowers for the first time. It is earliest rose flowering in the spring, comming here in Gothenburg rather late. The rose has always some flowers under all the summer. Above on the picture you can see the Yngve´s house quite on the top of the hill and you can see better the location of 'The Street Terraces' in relation to the house!
The summer in the 1997 was unusually warm and sunny, all grew very well. To the left - the rose 'Prairie Dawn' which is not really related to 'New Dawn', namely it is Rosa pimpinellifolia.. But here the rose did not want to flower really. In the 1999 a shoot of 'Susanne' has appeared in the middle of 'Prairie Dawn's bush and it took over the flowering thing!
Anyway, I should maybe planted only 'Susanne' roses on the Terraces. Any of those another roses have been really in bloom any time.
Behind 'Prairie Dawn' the 'Ilse Krohn Superior' is planted, which is not any superior here. Almost any flowers occurred either and it grows very poorly. The rose is most often exposed on the west wind from the creek, because it is planted highest. Similar 'Dr Eckener' (R.rugosa hybrid) is doing not well - almost no flowers or growth. I have bought in the 1999 one more plant of this sort and planted in the middle of the lawn, in front of the entrance of the house. It have taken also a long time to see flower on the other Doctor, but it was worth to wait! You could see on the pictures, and the flowers are delightfully scented as well!
One more disappointing it has been the ''Blanc Double de Coubert' rose. A long time almost no flowers, relative more first in 2001 - and the rose was not that tough as I've heard it would be, even on the coastal area.
White flowers on the highest part of the terraces it is Cerastium tomentosum, my 'friend' - I think it is one of the best garden plants! Maybe somebody treats it as a weed, but in my gardens it is always welcome.
